Why haven’t I heard of Pathways before?
If you haven’t heard about Pathways before, it could be due to the fact that most of our advertising is from word of mouth. Nearly everyone who attends comes because someone else who attended our program gained so much value and told them about it. The website can give you information about our different programs and if you have more questions you can speak with someone in our office at 847-478-1088.
Our courses are experiential in nature. Everything presented is to support you in achieving more of what you want in your life and less of what you don’t. Whether it’s creating more loving, open relationships or finding and creating a loving relationship; creating more success in your career or finding a career. Whatever level of success you have attained thus far, the courses support you in having even more. It all begins and ends with you. You are the main ingredient in all areas of your life!
Tell me more about the Courses
Essentially, the courses offer participants the opportunity to recognize what beliefs or patterns are promoting or impeding their current level of success. Much like an operating system of a computer, we can sometimes operate on old programs, beliefs, or patterns that we are unaware are open.
Every component of the courses—the exercises, the facilitators’ instructions, the presentations, absolutely everything!—is designed to support you in creating the success, joy, and love you most want. When you complete the program, you will have clarified exactly what you want and how to create more of it in your life. You will have learned to hold yourself and others accountable in a caring way, as well as being able to ask for support.
You will have a deeper understanding of teamwork and can apply that in all areas of your life: your home as well as in your professional life. When you leave, you will feel light, less burdened by life’s circumstances and be excited about the new journey you are on to create the life you were always meant to live.
How long have you been doing this?
We’ve been conducting the Pathways Course series since 1984, over 30 years.
Where did you come up with the principles and concepts?
Initially, the principles and concepts were acquired from a course company that the founders of Pathways attended and purchased in 1984. When that company closed in the Chicago area, Jeff and Sue Paige purchased the rights to their programs and began Pathways. Since then, the principles and concepts have evolved to where it is today.
The principles of integrity, honesty, responsibility, accountability, love, compassion, forgiveness, effective communication, leadership, and win/win are universal. What makes us unique is how we are able to transfer those principles from a conceptual understanding into action.
I have been to other self-development programs, group counseling, church retreats, and leadership courses. How is Pathways different?
What stands us apart from other courses is that we teach the concepts in the courses to touch all learning styles. The courses are presented in such a way that each style of learning is able to relate to the material. We present each concept in lecture form (auditory learner), in visual form (visual learner) and with an exercise to practice what we have presented (hands-on learner). In doing this, the participant walks away with more than a textbook knowledge of the material; they have an intellectual, as well as an emotional and physical understanding.
An example of the benefit to this would be as though you read a book about riding a bike. You get an intellectual idea of what it would be like, yet until you actually sit on the bike and begin to ride, you really do not incorporate the learning internally. Based on how we teach the courses you walk away with a deeper understanding and the ability to incorporate all the tools that have been taught that weekend.
What am I going to get out of the course?
Each person gets something different from the courses as we are each unique individuals living different lives. There is no way we can tell you exactly what you will walk away with. The courses support each individual to get the most out of their individual life and relationships.
The most common benefits that graduates have shared include:
- Effectively communicate in all areas of life
- Communicating with and dealing constructively with difficult people and situations without going into reaction
- Learning to create solid agreements that support things being completed on time
- Learning how to hold others accountable in a way that promotes mutual success
- Increased self-esteem and self-worth
- Bringing out more creativity and strengths in yourself and others
- Clarity on what you want to create and what is important to you
- Identify beliefs and behaviors that promote and impede your success
- Feeling more empowered to meet challenges and take the risks necessary to create the success in your business and personal lives
- Giving and receiving support in such a way that everybody wins
- Creating the kinds of relationships you have always hoped for
- Achieving dreams you may have given up on or let go of
- Healing past wounds
- Letting go of old burdens
- You feel more in control of life rather than life or life events controlling you.
Do professionals support the courses?
Yes. After collaborating with various corporations and businesses and presenting our Communication, Teamwork, and Leadership Workshops in-house, many send their employees through our public courses as well. Oftentimes companies will also support spouses in attending in order to have their employees feel more supported in their home and work life. Sales Managers highly recommend that their sales teams attend in order to create more support and increased sales through stronger and more effective teamwork. Many therapists recommend the courses to their clients after having experienced it themselves, as they feel it enhances the work the client does in therapy. The therapists tell us that the client tends to move through issues faster and feels more empowered to reach results in their lives.
Why are there questions about psychiatric and medical history on the back of the application?
We are committed to providing an environment that is conducive to everyone gaining maximum value. If someone has a psychiatric disorder we want that person and their therapist to understand what the seminar will cover. We work with them so that together we can decide if this is an appropriate time and course for their client to attend. If you are seeing a therapist for conventional reasons, the courses are a great addition to your therapy.
If someone has a medical condition, we want that person to understand the structure and hours so they can make an informed decision in attending. We would also want to be aware so we can provide any additional support that might be needed for that person to have a great experience. In no way are we suggesting if someone has a medical condition that they should not attend. We have had people attend who have had heart conditions, high blood pressure, hearing impairment, sight impairment, and other special needs, such using a wheel chair. We do our best to accommodate everyone and take their needs into consideration.
I’m already seeing a therapist and I’m afraid that this might interfere with my therapy. Will it?
In no way will the courses interfere with your therapy. In fact, many have found just the opposite happened. We’ve heard from therapists, as well as graduates, how their therapy was enhanced in many ways after attending. Therapists that have been through our programs tell us that the seminars increase the effectiveness of their therapy sessions when their clients have attended.
They also say that it is a double bonus if the therapist has attended the courses as well. Due to the therapist having the understanding of the programs the graduates tend to refer that therapist to other graduates due to a deeper understanding the therapist has of what they have gone through with the courses.
What kind of credentials and qualifications do you have to do this work?
Our courses are designed to educate and empower individuals to enhance the quality of their lives and their relationships. When the Paige’s first began, they were trained by the person who, at that time, owned the courses. Since that time, and through the past 30+ years of hands-on experience, the style has evolved as so much is learned through life and hands-on experience. We have had over 45,000 people attend the courses.
All of our facilitators go through a rigorous 3—5 year training program. Upon completion, they continue to participate in ongoing training programs.
Is Pathways for everybody?
We feel that everyone can gain value from the courses. Participants have ranged in age from 9 to 89 over the last 30+ years. There have been over 45,000 people who have attended and found tremendous value. Because we are confident that everyone will gain value, we offer a 100% money back guarantee. If, after attending the 3 or 4-day Basic class, you feel like you gained no value, we will refund your money—no questions asked. In all the years we have been doing this work, only 58 people have requested a refund.
We believe many are quite skeptical in the beginning and are not sure if “this is for them.” Yet, by the end of the course they share that the value they gained was beyond anything they could imagine and are so glad they took the chance and attended.
Is Pathways good for a couple’s relationship?
Our programs are amazing for couples. We have helped couples save their marriage, build stronger, long-lasting marriages, have a deeper friendship, better relationship, and be more in love than when they got married. How we do this is by supporting each individual in taking a deeper look at themselves and where they do or do not show up in the relationship. As each partner looks at this and makes the changes they most want to, they rediscover why they fell in love in the first place. You are able to create a deeper more intimate friendship which brings rise to new energy and love in the relationship! While it doesn’t always work, as timing and schedules can be an issue, we highly recommend that couples attend together. Add the Couples Course after attending Basic, and the sky is the limit!
Is it better to go with or without my spouse?
It’s a tremendous experience to be able to participate together. So, if you both want to attend, we highly recommend it. If your spouse does not want to attend we suggest that you attend and gain the value of the courses for yourself. If, in the future, your spouse changes his/her mind and wants to go, you can repeat with them at no charge.
Sometimes a person attends through their business and, after experiencing it, they return with their spouse. Creating loving, healthy, and successful relationships is what the courses are about.
If you have a friend or family member who has been through the courses, and they won’t tell you what happens in them, here is why:
They want you to have the best experience possible and don’t want to spoil it for you. It would be like telling you the ending to a great movie before you saw it. So much of the learning comes from the experience you have when you do the different exercises, so telling you what the exercises are deprives you of the spontaneity and learning.
We ask the participants to keep the exercises to themselves in order to give you the opportunity of that spontaneity, which you deserve. Everyone is encouraged to talk about what they personally experienced and what they learned. We do ask participants not to share what another person experiences so that it creates a safe place for everyone to do or say what they need or want to.
I have a friend that has gone through and they just won’t leave me alone—they keep wanting me to attend. Why is that?
Graduates generally share the classes with those they care most about or are in their lives on a daily basis. They gained so much value from the courses and see more clearly ways of creating what they most want in their lives, and want you to have the chance to have the same for yourself. The tools presented and used in the courses support closeness, teamwork, and the ability to create more in all of your relationships. While we can’t speak directly for them, we’re sure they want to share the tools with you so that collectively you can take the learning and concepts and support one another in attaining your goals and dreams.
What if I’d rather figure it out on my own?
We believe we each have our own answers. Oftentimes we live our lives on automatic pilot and can lose sight of where we’re headed. The class will support you in taking the time to see what you are doing that is bringing you closer to what you most want and what you are doing that is not. In the areas where it isn’t, you will learn easier and more effective ways to figure things out on your own and can apply that learning to the areas where you are currently having success as well. This will enable you to achieve the things you want much faster.
How long are the courses?
Basic is a three- or four-day course, over the course of a weekend. The four-day course starts on Thursday night at 7pm, continues Friday night at 7pm, and meets all day Saturday and Sunday. The three-day course starts Friday at 1pm and meets all day Saturday and Sunday.

The Basic course can have up to 60-80 participants. The Advanced course has no more than 60 participants. The limit for a Leadership course is 40-50 people. The maximum for the Couples course is no more than 30 couples.
I’m so busy. Why should I spend a whole weekend away from my family?
It’s a common concern for many when they’re considering attending. Time with our families is important time.
Graduates have told us that one of the greatest benefits is how much closer, intimate, and joyful their family life is after attending. They’ve been able to bring back what they’ve learned to their family for years after attending.
How they communicate with their spouse and children, how they parent, how they enrich their marriage, how they handle difficult or challenging times was more than worth the time they spent in the course.
How much does it cost?
The Basic course cost is $695.00 for adults and $295.00 for 22 and under; it is approximately 40 hours long. That’s about $15 per hour for adults and around $7.50 per hour for young adults. We believe it’s a bargain!
